Effect: Slow Motion, Interlaced Video
Description
Slows down the clip by smoothly interpolating interlaced fields. This gives a smooth slow-motion look to video which is to be output to a TV. See the important note below.
Controls
|
Slowdown: |
|
Determines degree to which the clip is slowed down. |
|
Reverse Fields: |
|
Determines if the video fields should be reversed. If the slow motion clip looks likes the fields are tearing, try setting this slider to Yes. |
Notes
IMPORTANT: Since an effect plugin cannot change the duration of a clip, as the clip is slowed down the remaining portion is lost. For example, if you slow down a clip by a factor of 3x, then the first third of the clip now takes as long as the entire original clip. Therefore the remaining two thirds of the clip are lost. To avoid this, make sure that there is enough extra space at the end of your clip. For this, you may need to turn off the "Automatically start new clip at scene break" setting in iMovie's Preferences panel.
This effect is meant for interlaced video. When viewed in the small or large preview windows, the frames of the clip will appear to jump up and down. This is expected, as these frames are not interlaced. The result on a TV screen will be smooth.
